Description: Haleakalā National Park features a vast crater. The trail descends to the crater's bottom and then ascends to the opposite rim. Within this desert-like terrain, the silversword is one of the few species that can survive such extreme conditions. Standing at the base of the crater and surveying the surroundings, one sees nothing but lava rocks. On this weekday after Thanksgiving, tourist numbers are sparse (presumably many are enjoying beach views from luxury hotels). Suddenly, we spotted this alien-like creature, prompting me to question whether I was on Mars or Earth.

Description: This is one of the few trips where I've maintained my workout schedule while traveling, largely due to my super energetic travel companion. Starting the day with a 5k run along this stunning trail, surrounded by luxury hotels, offers a unique experience. The weather in Hawaii during Thanksgiving couldn't be more ideal. Additionally, indulging in a buffet breakfast at a luxury hotel after a morning workout truly elevates this vacation.
